Andrew Moffat has been Assistant Head Teacher at Parkfield Community School for the six years and is now PD lead for Excelsior Multi Academy Trust, working in schools (including Parkfield) to develop the Personal Development curriculum and ensure a consistent, inclusive equality ethos. Andrew created the “No Outsiders” curriculum in 2014 to prepare children for life in modern Britain; the aim is to foster an enthusiasm for the rich diversity in our communities and develop confident global citizens of the future. In 2017 Andrew was awarded a MBE for his work on equality and diversity in education.
In 2019 Andrew’s work hit headlines when protests emerged outside Parkfield School over the inclusion of LGBT equality in the curriculum. As a direct result of the protests, No Outsiders became a focus point for campaigns against RSE and “LGBT lessons” in primary schools. During this time Andrew was listed in the top 10 of the Varkey Foundation Global Teacher prize (The only UK finalist) held in Dubai, and was later awarded “Hero of the year” in the European Diversity Awards and given an honorary doctorate for his inclusion work by the University of Worcester.
No Outsiders continues to be taught at Parkfield Community School alongside hundreds of schools across the UK. Andrew regularly delivers training to teachers on building an equality ethos in schools
“Andrew’s services to equality and diversity in education is extraordinary and his passion and drive to ensure that each and every child in this country feels safe and included is humbling.” Sally Olford, Aspire Director of Safeguarding
